Until January 4, 2027 at 10:00 AM ET you can play without a username or the $1 fee — a free account gets you a temporary handle and a place in the queue. These games are fully rated: the same Glicko-2 rating as paying members, in every time category.
When you claim your permanent username, your rating and full win-loss-draw record come with you — abandonments do not, so your real name starts clean. Quit twice as a guest and free play closes on that device. After launch, rated play needs a lifetime name. Start playing.

Quitters move through an escalating ladder: 5 minutes, 1 hour, 24 hours, 7 days, then permanent. Resigning is always honorable and never earns an abandonment strike.
