Stripe Terms

How payments on NX Chess are processed by Stripe, what you are buying, and where to find the Stripe Services Agreement that governs every checkout.

About Stripe and Our Use of It

NX Chess uses Stripe, a third-party payment processor, to handle all payments on this site. When you claim a username, become a founding member, or make a donation, the payment is processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card details — card information is collected and handled entirely by Stripe.

What We Sell

There are no subscriptions or recurring charges. The processing fee shown with each price covers the card processing cost and is included in the total you see at checkout. Every payment is a one-time charge made with your explicit action through Stripe Checkout, and the exact amount is always shown to you on the Stripe checkout page before you confirm the payment.

  • Lifetime username — a one-time $1.00 payment plus a $0.39 card processing fee ($1.39 total) for a permanent, unique username on NX Chess, tied to your rating and reputation.
  • Founding member — a one-time $10.00 payment plus a $0.64 card processing fee ($10.64 total) that includes a lifetime username plus the Founder and Supporter badges.
  • Donations — optional voluntary contributions between $1.00 and $1,000 to support the operation of the site.

How Payments Work

When you choose to pay, you are redirected to a secure Stripe-hosted checkout page. There you review the amount and description, enter your payment details, and confirm the purchase. Stripe transmits and encrypts your payment information; NX Chess only receives a confirmation that the payment succeeded, along with your chosen username for the purchase.

Data and Privacy

Stripe collects and processes your payment information (such as card number, billing details, and transaction data) under the Stripe Services Agreement and Stripe's privacy policy. NX Chess separately stores your account username, game history, and reputation data, as described in our Privacy Policy.

Refunds and Disputes

If you are charged in error, encounter a problem with your purchase, or your chosen username cannot be granted, we refund your payment in full. Because payments are processed by Stripe, refunds are issued back to your original payment method. For our complete refund policy, see the Refunds page. If you dispute a charge with your bank instead of contacting us, the dispute is handled under Stripe's dispute process described in the Stripe Services Agreement.

Contact Us

For any billing question, refund request, or payment issue, contact us through the Support page. We respond to payment-related requests promptly, and no question is too small — we would rather hear from you than see a chargeback.

Stripe Services Agreement

Your use of Stripe's payment services when checking out on NX Chess is governed by the Stripe Services Agreement between you and Stripe, which applies to every payment you make on this site. The full agreement, including its consumer protections and dispute terms, is published by Stripe at the link below.
