The strike ladder
A disconnect has a 2-minute grace period. Returning in time has no penalty; resigning is always honorable. Only active strikes count toward the ladder.
Protection for real disconnects
Enforcement targets rage quitters, not bad Wi-Fi. These rules apply automatically to everyone.
- 2-minute grace. A dropped connection or crashed browser has two minutes to rejoin before the game counts as abandoned.
- Strikes expire. A strike stops counting toward the ladder after 90 days. Members in good standing for 12+ months see strikes expire after 45 days.
- One strike per day. A flaky evening can only move you one step up the ladder — additional abandonments within 24 hours are recorded but add no strike.
- Appeals. A 7-day or permanent ban can be appealed once, from your ban notice or the Support page. A human reviews the game and your history; a granted appeal removes the strike and lifts the ban. Shorter bans are automatic and expire on their own.
Re-entry after a permanent ban
A permanently banned player may buy back in once per ban. Re-entry keeps the same username and ratings, resets sportsmanship to 100, and restarts the strike ladder. The fee rises every time; the sixth permanent ban is final. Your re-entry history is private and never shown to other players.
How enforcement works
- Matchmaking checks bans before placing a player in the queue.
- Only abandoning a live game after the grace period creates a strike.
- Completed games use Glicko-2 ratings, including rating uncertainty.
- Draw agreements, automatic draws, resignations, and timeouts are recorded without abandonment strikes.
